at the end of the day, it’s night.

Last night, at the mgm grand casino & hotel in Las vegas, professional boxer & recording artist Kyrone “shut it down” Davis made huge waves for the city of Wilmington. fighting on the tank davis vs. frank martin undercard against the formerly undefeated elijah garcia. this highly anticipated fight was originally scheduled for March 30th but was postponed due to Garcia battling seasonal allergies the night before the fight. Expecting all outstanding issues to have been resolved by the new fight date, Kyrone’s corner was faced with even more unsettling news this time as well, having to renegotiate the details of the match when Garcia weighed in about 5lbs over the agreed upon weight limit. Finally, the fight was made possible ending in a split decision after 10 rounds of Garcia being simply picked apart & out-classed by Davis. improving his record to 19-3-1, 6 KOs. two judges scored the fight 97-93 in favor of Davis, while one judge confoundingly scored 98-92 for Garcia. This was 1 of 2 wins for “Shut It Down” that occurred within that same week.

At the start of the week, Monday, June 10th, ky dropped an ep entitled “B4 it gets dark”. The ep was just a warm-up for a full album set to drop some time in the near future called “Dark Horse”. With the aid of producers Brandon “Bam Beatzz” Avant, Robert “Faxonly” Fairfax III, & mastering engineer Davante Ellison, this next album is set to contribute to the rebirth of a new era of “real” hip-hop music in which the world has been missing for a while. the newly available “B4 it gets dark” ep is made up of 6 tracks. each track standing on it’s own as single-worthy with unique flows and masterfully timed cadences. tracks like “Tango” and “TG” demonstrates the way Ky picks apart and exposes certain pockets of the beat similar as to when he’s in the ring. anyone can do two things at once & find ways to balance both pretty easily if planned correctly, but it’s not as easy to do so at the level in which Kyrone has been doing it over the past few years. hosting showcases, speaking at events, podcasts, brand partnerships, while taking on top contenders in the middleweight division, Kyrone has definitely been busy in & out of the ring.

Davis is a Wilmington resident who’s been taking great strides for the community since first joining The “WHACC” Center as an amateur at around the age of 13. he’s a perfect example of a strong & positive leader in the community. living as an example of staying consistent, and taking advantage of opportunities. at the same age of about 13 was when Ky first started creating music as well, being inspired by people like michael jackson, drake, & 50 cent. He firmly believes in the principle of not allowing yourself to be put in a box as long as your willpower & desire outweighs the expectations of others. This is how he’s able to live “two lives” or “two dreams”, as a world class boxer and traveling performing artist. a wise message: in life, you can do whatever you want, you really can, but it takes discipline, consistency, & “a lot of fire” (ky’s words at the weigh-in regarding his fight with garcia) to “do whatever you want” & win. everything comes with a cost but when you are patient & strategic, the return on investment is worth it. take it from mr. shut it down himself.
